Sustainability – Action not just words.

At Southernsbroadstock, we are always looking at ways of designing and developing furniture that is kinder to the environment. This involves incorporating recycled and environmentally sensitive materials where appropriate into our product designs and processes. We have a number of market leading products like our ‘Fresh chair’ which is made of glass polymer and is 100% recyclable.

A products lifecycle is equally important, so we try and make sure our products are also designed with disassembly in mind. This way individual component parts can be easily replaced to allow for furniture re-use, delivering long-term cost benefits to our customers.

Sustainability sits at the core of all the companies within Extentia Group. As an established and well-respected manufacturing company we take our social responsibilities seriously. Acting as a driving force within the industry we aim to manage operations in a sustainable, economically feasible and socially responsible way.

As a manufacturing business, energy use is one of our largest environmental impacts. To ensure our impact is a low as possible, we have installed photovoltaic panels across the roof of our Macclesfield facility to reduce our electricity consumption. This system has saved approximately 14,000 Kg of CO2 emissions per year, the equivalent of driving over 45,000 miles a year in a typical family saloon car. Our Talbott Biomass Boiler provides carbon neutral heat for our premises and utilises our waste residues. This has reduced the amount of waste going to landfill and our carbon footprint for heating alone by a massive 118 tonnes of C02 per year.

We have also partnered with Over2Hills who are dedicated to preventing any redundant furniture reaching landfill – refurbishing items and donating them to local charities and good causes. We ensure that all packaging is returned to our partners for recycling – ensuring zero waste to landfill.

Sustainable development is all about ensuring a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come. Through our ISO 14001 environmental management systems, we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact and emissions and actively research new technologies and operating systems to help us achieve this. We have a responsibility to future generations and are committed to taking this journey with our clients and suppliers by our side.
