Mental Health Awareness Week

Published: May 15, 2023

Today is the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, something important to us here at Southernsbroadstock. The theme this year is anxiety, a feeling that can be triggered by big life events, relationships and everyday life tasks.

Increasing awareness and highlighting the support available throughout the business is key for us to ensure every member of our team feels supported. With a number of Mental Health First Aiders over multiple departments, supporting people experiencing mental health problems whilst at work; we are introducing numerous initiatives. Starting things off by welcoming external speakers to Southernsbroadstock to provide support and counselling for employees who are struggling and require specialist support.

We will be hosting regular coffee mornings at our Bolton and Macclesfield sites in hopes to bring our teams closer together to talk about mental health. Discussing how to further support mental health, openly at Southernsbroadstock.

Support at Southernsbroadstock

We are proud to collaborate with 3 amazing organisations that support the mental wellbeing of our employees:

  • Mental Health Foundation – they are the organisers of Mental Health Awareness Week and we will be partnering with them throughout the week to allow us to focus on positive mental health and wellbeing for all.
  • Shout – an organisation that provides 24/7, confidential support. When people text the free crisis text support service (85258), they will receive help when they need it most.
  • Able Futures – an organisation that provides 9 months’ worth of advice and guidance to our employees from mental health-trained professionals. This includes teaching coping mechanisms, building resilience, providing access to therapy and collaborating with Southernsbroadstock to make adjustments to help employees’ mental health at work.

1 in 6 of us is affected by mental health problems every single week, which is why Mental Health Awareness Week is such a vital cause to support. Donations can be made online to help fund essential support, and at Southernsbroadstock, we will be participating in ‘Wear it Green Day’  on Thursday 18th May. We will be encouraging all employees to get involved on the day to help raise funds.
