Clerkenwell Design Week 23

Published: June 22, 2023

Did you know that Clerkenwell has more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else in the world? That is just one of the many reasons to visit, and why Southernsbroadstock like to visit as often as they can, especially when it’s Clerkenwell Design Week. CDW is the UK’s largest and free design festival and this year’s event took place last month with over 37,000 people in attendance over the three days!

Over 11 venues there were more than 300 designers and 160 local showrooms hosting a range of product launches, workshops and talks. Between 23rd and 25th May, a series of specially commissioned public art was displayed around the area as well as a number of wonderfully designed features and showcases. It’s an incredibly inspiring event that hosts huge names and organisations in the world of architecture and design.

Conversations throughout the event pushed the boundaries of design-led dialogue alongside issues-led discussion about diversity, sustainable practices and circularity within design. Dyson was one of the leading sponsors of the event and they have predicted some big trends for 2023 including sustainability, indoor air quality, energy efficiency and more. Read more of their predictions online. Spatial planning and design are a big part of our work at Southernsbroadstock, so CDW was an insightful exhibition and left us inspired to continue creating inspiring spaces that positively impact morale, retention and productivity.

Three members of the Southernsbroadstock team visited CDW 2023, and had only positive things to say about their time there…

Hayley Mig, Sales Manager

“An incredible event that left us inspired and motivated. We noticed a strong emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly design. It was refreshing to see how many exhibitors incorporated environmentally conscious materials and practices into their products. This focus on sustainability is an encouraging shift in the industry. It provided us with valuable insights, introduced us to exciting trends, and allowed us to connect with industry peers.”

Fede Locci, Account Manager

“Great to be present at this event with colleagues, catching up with suppliers, and looking for new trends / what’s new in furniture, fabrics, materials etc. It was interesting to see the range of colours used in every showroom, the blues, greens, and more bright oranges in some places, it elevates the space and makes it more inclusive.”

Steph Pollitt, Account Manager

“I enjoyed watching the Orangebox upholsterer work his magic on an old Skomer stool and discuss how they have developed different reupholstery methods to enable easier refurbishment in the future. Orangebox found a great balance with their showroom laylout and everything seems to flow very organically.

It was also interesting to see how many Pods and ‘room within a room’ options there were at the event.”

Clerkenwell Design Week will return in 2024 from 21st to 23rd May. Sign up to the CDW newsletter to get the latest updates and information.
