Southernsbroadstock was delighted to work with the University to reimagine an existing library building to create a new, inspirational, and multi-functional space.
What were the challenges?
Following the opening of the flagship Student Life building, the University wanted to revive the existing Library to offer a modern, stimulating environment.
The brief was to design a dynamic learning space to encourage student learning and occupancy. This was to be achieved whilst working within tight timescales and budget.
How did we overcome the challenges?
The existing fixed furniture, with an uninspiring colour palette, needed to be replaced. Working with the University’s team, we proposed a cohesive floorplan of interconnected zones. Each area would have a defined function – IT, collaboration, quiet and study spaces – yet linked through a unified colour palette and design style. Acoustics were managed using sound-absorbing upholstered booths together with free-standing and desk-mounted screens. Our dedicated account manager, supported by our design and project management teams, was able to quickly translate the brief into working plans. Following agreement on specification and finishes, the project was installed over a one-week period.
What was the outcome?
The new facility is a complete transformation from the previous iteration. The focus on inclusivity is realised through the installation of electric sit/stand desking together with a variety of settings to provide different areas to match individual preferences and requirements.
The project highlights to opportunity to create an inviting, multi-functional space through a focussed and creative approach. The result is a dynamic, welcoming environment for all.
